The objectives of the FNCB are to stimulate interest in natural history and to encourage the preservation and protection of the natural environment. The Buninyong Gardens (incorporating The Gong) possess an impressive collection of pines, conifers and maples. Four specimen maple trees are registered on the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Register of Significant Trees. Lake Esmond Reserve

Napoleons Enfield Landcare Group Inc

Description

We are a community group concerned about protecting our local biodiversity. As a Landcare Group, we started working on riparian public land in 1997 around Napoleons and Scotchman's Lead with support from local government agencies and neighbours and have been particularly active since 2013.

We encourage volunteering by running working bees, training events, and holding Open days. We have an active committee, membership, and an increasing number of Facebook members.

Activities

We hope to be a Committee of Management for the public riparian lands around Scotchmans Lead/Franklins Bridge. We also work at Cambrian Hill Nature Reserve at the end of Glassons Lane. Currently we are increasing access to the sites for visitors, continuing to plant and maintain riparian woodlands along the Yarrowee and lower Union Jack Creek, planting low canopy plants to increase biodiversity, experimenting growing kangeroo grass on road verge, etc.

We have working bees on the first Sunday of the month starting Feb 2023 and weekly working bees on the two sites.

The Hidden Orchard

Description

The Hidden Orchard is a group of volunteers that harvest unwanted fruit and redistribute it to the Ballarat community.

Activities

The Hidden Orchard harvest fruit from both public and private land and redistribute it through around 30 different Ballarat food relief charities. They also collect the damaged fruit and donate it to the Ballarat Wildlife Park and Wala Wildlife Sanctuary. The group was founded in 2017 following the Ballarat Local Food Forum and has grown to almost 300 volunteers and 200 properties on their tree register.
